Well, it's got a different flavor this time, anyway. So there's Good Omens casting wank erupting on Tumblr. Terry and Neil, oh dear...now, when Sir Terry tossed up the idea of Benedict Cumberbatch playing Aziraphale AS HE DID, my mind immediately made me feel like a terrible person for thinking that maybe his illness had something to do with it, because LOLWUT? Turns out Neil agrees with him. Bad enough, right?
I'm not the only person who thinks that might be a casting suggestion that's even worse than the Robin Williams idea floated 15 years ago, which is saying a great deal.* But some fans really like it, and there's a fanmade dreamcasting poster floating around. Which Neil reblogged. Fan firmly on the HELL NO side flips out and calls Neil a dick. Other fans flip out all over that fan. This could fizzle or this could escalate...either way, I want no part of it, but keeping my big mouth shut isn't one of those talents I can always rely on.
* This isn't me being a hater. I love Benedict Cumberbatch. But I certainly don't love him for his Aziraphale-like qualities, because he has none whatsoever. Now Martin Freeman, on the other hand...
In other news, I continue to not give a shit about The Avengers. I might go see it eventually if I have to get out of the apartment for a while, but I'm not feeling a lot of excitement about it.
ETA: Aaaaaaannnd...now Fandom Secrets is in on the act. Never underestimate the power of a terrible idea whose time has come!

Date: 2012-05-12 07:56 pm (UTC)Of course some fangirls are going insane with desire for this. More than one person believes the casting is now set in stone for Aziraphale and Crowley (of course when the squees include the name "Zira" I tune out quickly). I am so very, very eager for these speculations to be dashed and someone truly appropriate to actually be announced. And for people to STOP mentioning either author as being the ones to do the casting, since they PROMISED they wouldn't.
Getting tired of the Supernatural crossover squee, and I despair of those who would never have found the book BUT through the show. *siiiiigh* It doesn't fit in EVERY SINGLE ASPECT, you guys.
(Though I stringently avoid fandomsecrets, I checked your link this time and was pleasantly surprised at the overall distaste for such casting. One person suggested Eric Idle as Aziraphale, and my god, right now I could actually see that working.)

My dreamcasting? Cumberbatch and Sheppard = Hastur and Ligur. Tell me you can't see it!
