I had a good time with this one! The request was for Faerie Queen/Mortal, gerontophilia, a contract made in youth comes due.

Bittersweet November

Pairing: Faerie Queen/OFC
Rating: Explicit
Word Count: 1927
Tags: Gerontophilia, Body Worship, Cunnilingus, Contracts With the Fae, Aging, Body Positivity

Summary: Racinthe is old and she feels the autumn chill. A pact she made in her youth comes due - much later than she expected. But not too late. Not too late at all.

So the beloved pan-fandom Sherlock Holmes exchange [community profile] holmestice is on hiatus for Winter 2021 to give the mods a very well-deserved break.

BUT!

Reminder that they are hosting two smaller, lower-pressure events: free open posting in December, and going on RIGHT NOW....

Is a prompt fest! That's right! You can leave your prompts for fic, art, vids, podfic, you name it, in ANY version of Sherlock Holmes, in any universe.

Yes, all the big popular ones are welcome - as are every book, comic, show, movie, game, parody, short story, anime, radio drama, web series, anything. If it's Holmes at all it's welcome.

Dreamwidth posts tend to drop off in activity after a while and this one's been up a week, so it's gone a bit quiet and I wanted to top it up a little.

Here's the prompt fest post and how it works:

Winter 2021 Prompt Fest

Go forth and leave prompts, and pick up some if you like.

(Yes, I'm working on one. No, not telling which.)

Belated, reveals were nearly a week ago, but I don't have my shit together, so here we go better late than never!

Master List

Astounding! Nearly 60 works created in nearly 20 different Holmes universes: fic, art, vids, podfics!

I received the spectacular The Adventure of the Three Gay Bowls by [personal profile] sanguinity!

In the verse of Larry Townsend's extremely raunchy The Sexual Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Redeems one of the worst (IMO) canon stories, fixes TSAfSH's near-total lack of women (understandable because Townsend wasn't into that but one does wonder what the ladies get up to) and leans into the style with absolute perfection. Sanguinity also says there's some Patrick Califia influence in the f/f segment and I can totally see that.

I think I threw at least a few people off the guessing track because I didn't write either ACD or BBC this round.

I wrote Rulers Make Bad Lovers for [personal profile] deelaundry, in the Watson and Holmes comic 'verse. Features Mrs Hudson's jazz lore, Holmes' violin, H/W romance, and a casefic based on "Beryl Coronet."

Verse: Watson and Holmes (comic)
Characters/Pairings: Sherlock Holmes/Jon Watson, Mrs Hudson, others
Rating: T
Word Count: 5644
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply, Canon-Typical Racism
Tags: Casefic, romance, music
Summary: S. Holmes and Jon Watson haven’t been living together in their Harlem share for very long, but there is definitely something building between them. Mrs. Hudson knows it before they do. They’ve had high-stakes life and death cases before - but it’s a low-stakes case that allows them the time to open up. It only involves averting a nasty international incident.

And as a treat for [personal profile] graycardinal, the first and so far only fic on AO3 based on Esther M. Friesner's 1980s fantasy novel Druid's Blood:

Albion's Seed
Verse: Druid’s Blood - Esther M. Friesner
Characters/Pairings: John H. Weston/Queen Victoria, Brihtric Donne/Ada Lovelace, John H. Weston & Brihtric Donne ride-or-die friendship and maybe more in the future, someday
Rating: T
Warnings: Reference to Canon Infidelity
Summary: A British ruler who moonlights as a doctor and a writer pens a letter to a muse who supported him when he was no one, to tell him that he’s welcome and needed at home.

This has quickly become my favorite fest and by all means, go read/watch/look at/listen to and otherwise enjoy all the great works

HOLMESTICE REVEALS ARE UP!! My first year participating (though I've been reading for years) and I was all over it! Thread of the story I received and the stories I wrote. Here's the masterlist of ALL the amazing works produced: MASTERLIST

I received the WONDERFUL "A Study in Scheming" by Starfishstar. BBC 'verse, Irene/Mary. More of this ship and it is twisty, clever, touching, delightful! A Study in Scheming by Starfishstar on AO3

The set-up is a little bit similar to my own "Leaves Tremblin' On the Tree" - Irene helps Mary evade Sherlock and John in T6T - but goes in a very different direction, and there's still a lot of life left in that premise!

The main gift that I wrote is "Pearls Beyond Price" for happyeverafter72. ACD canon, Holmes/Watson/Mary. I've written a lot of BBC Johnlockary but this was my first long one in ACD. Pearls Beyond Price on AO3

I do so love writing awkward polyamory negotiations between Victorians in love, all at very different levels of repression, and getting them to that Happily Ever After.

I also wrote 2 treats! For Strampunch, who wanted genderfluid!Holmes presenting femme and Watson being "a bisexual disaster," I wrote "Charlotte Sometimes" (ACD, H/W) Charlotte Sometimes on AO3

Strampunch's art is SO AMAZING, and when I saw they had a prompt request that really really inspired me, I pounced. Wanting to give something back.

For iwantthatcoat I wrote a verse I've never done before: Alexis Hall's fantastic The Affair of the Mysterious Letter, crossed over with BBC: "The Stress of Her Regard" The Stress of Her Regard on AO3

That book was on my TBR list already because of the long essay I'm writing about Magic & The Occult in Sherlockian Fiction, and Coat's request bumped it up to the top. I devoured it in three days.
If you like queer as fuck cosmic horror adventure comedy (you probably do) I can't recommend it highly enough. Since the premise has interdimensional travel in there already, why not send Shaharazad Haas and John Wyndham to early 21st century London and see what happens?

So you've probably noticed that this year, I've posted a Bone-Fiddle-verse drabble or drabble series on and for every full moon.

This, the next to the last, is a special occasion: a Blue Moon on Halloween/Samhain. So I decided to write, not a drabble but a full little flash fic around 1000 words.

I went for both smutty AND spooky, with an homage to one of my favorite classic weird tales writers, Manly Wade Wellman.

The Veil Dodger

Rating: Mature
Pairing: Mrs Hudson/Madame Tracy
Characters: Mrs Hudson, Madame Tracy, Jim Moriarty
Tags: Canon Fake Major Character Death, Canon Real Major Character Death, Discussion of Suicide, Grief, Seances, Spiritualism, Ghost Possession, Femslash, Dark Comedy

Summary: In the aftermath of what certainly appears to be the suicide of Sherlock Holmes, a grieving Mrs. Hudson has a lot of questions, and she will stop at nothing to get answers. Including answering a very dodgy ad for a psychic medium. The answers she receives don’t match the questions she asked.

Chapter 1/6: Solitude

This is a fairly lighthearted story really, but CW for grief and discussion of suicide. We know Sherlock isn't really dead, but Mrs. Hudson doesn't.

The remnants of Zeta did a little bit of a number on us. Everyone is fine and we're dry and we have power back today. The detached garage is definitely not fine. You wouldn't be fine either if a hickory tree had dropped a 100-lb. limb on you from about 60 feet up.

The internet here is not fine either. Spectrum is showing huge outages all over the region, and they're saying they can't even get people out there to fix the main line until they know it's safe - which it won't be until the power company fixes what they need. We are very lucky to have power - lots of our neighbors don't.

I'm posting due to the miracle of personal hotspots on phones. WORTH IT.

Harvest Moon

I am so ridiculously in love with these books - and the writing style is like, 80% of it. The first read-through of Gideon the Ninth, I had only a superficial understanding of what was happening, but I just kept going way too fast because the language was so beautiful and compelling and musical and MORBIDLY FUNNY.

(Seriously, this style is absolute catnip to me)

(Anyway, spoilers, won't spoil how absolutely wonderfully the shock reveals landed in my mind on my first read.)

Reading Harrow The Ninth? Off-putting for the first two-thirds but when the penny of the payoff dropped, it was SO SO SO worth it, and I'm glad I leech-blocked Twitter for two days to avoid spoilers. You can only ever read a great book for the first time ONCE.

Now on my second re-read of both, and I'm even more delighted than I was before.

I feel like these are books I will want to keep re-reading far into the future, because this world is just so fascinating.

So I'm very excited to announce that my (Evadare's) flash fic "Synchron" has been accepted for New Smut Project's upcoming Erato anthology of erotic short shorts!

The book is scheduled to come out in October - more info soon. "Synchron" features a nonbinary character, a narrator whose gender is never specified, and a machine for sonic sex magick.

AND...another anthology I'd thought long stalled-out is going forward after all, and it's going to include a story of mine that was accepted years ago. More details to come. This one is F/F, and it's an occult adventure in the Weird Tales pulp tradition.

So it looks like my sort of creative constipation is starting to break up.

In April, I co-ran the 221B Consolation Fest. This is a little fic and art fest on Tumblr and AO3 for people who aren't able to go to 221B Con and are sad about it. Because the con was cancelled, this year that's everyone!

I wrote 4 221B drabbles (two Sherlock, two Good Omens - yes I kept the 221B format for those too since it was a Sherlock-based fest)

Drawing the Wrong Conclusions (Good Omens, Aziraphale/Crowley, rated M). For [personal profile] qtheallpowerful, who wanted Book Omens, A/C, jealous Aziraphale, wingfic, Renaissance.

Intervention (Good Omens, Aziraphale/Crowley, rated T) (for [personal profile] bluebellofbakerstreet, who wanted Aziraphale/Crowley, medieval, blasphemy) CW for disease/plague/Black Death

Riding the Storm Out (Sherlock, Sherlock/John, Bone-Fiddle-verse, rated T) For [personal profile] discordantwords, who wanted TBF-verse Sherlock and John caught in a rainstorm.

Silence Louder Than Bombs (Sherlock, Sherlock/John, rated G) for [personal profile] write_out, who wanted Sherlock and John on the Tube. This one got a little angsty.

***

I've also begun a Bone-Fiddle-verse drabble series based on the "traditional" (apocryphal really) names for the full moons. It's part of the larger Bone Fiddle drabbles collection, and it starts here with "Wolf Moon" in January. Five so far. All Johnlock, rated T through M. (Haven't earned an E yet in this series but I probably will eventually)

I should have done this a long time ago, but I'm working on getting a little more organized. Here is a list I'm building of all the podfics people have made out of my stories over the years. All of them have my profound gratitude - it's SUCH a joy to be honored this way, and to have my work available in a different form.

Lomendánar (Little Love for the Things of My Love) podficced by Culumacilinte. (Lord of the Rings, Original Ent Character/Old Man Willow, Teen and Up) Story written in 2007; podfic made in 2013.

Be-Bop (Two Decades in Five Performances) podficced by kerravon. (Good Omens, Aziraphale/Crowley, songfic, General Audiences.) Story written in 2006; podfic made in 2015

Might As Well Jump, podficced by KeeperOfSeeds. (Good Omens, Aziraphale/Crowley, Explicit, historical). Story written in 2008, podfic made in 2020.

New Skin for the Old Ceremony, podficced by tinypinkmouse. (Good Omens/Dresden Files crossover, Aziraphale/Crowley, Explicit). Story written in 2012, podfic made in 2015.

Polar Vortex, podficced by CompassRose. (Dresden Files, Harry Dresden/Thomas Raith, Explicit). Story written in 2014, podfic made in 2019.

The Art of the Blood, podficced by missmuffin221 and VioletWylde. (ACD-canon Sherlock Holmes, Holmes/Watson, Explicit). Story written 2017, podfic made in 2018.

Because I'm terribly disorganized and forgetful, I'm not sure if this list is complete. If you've made any podfics of my stories that aren't on this list PLEASE let me know, and thank you thank thank you all
