The Middle Distance

I'm delighted to announce that my original-fic short story "Tempestuous" has been accepted for the 'Characterization' volume of the New Smut Project.

My story has themes about colonialism, culture clash, and co-operation, and it alludes heavily to Shakespeare. It's set around the year 1610, and it tells one of the erotic adventures of Ginny and Maddy, who are, um, Magical Lesbian Pirates. Yeah, that story. (They're Virginia Dare and Madimia Dee, who were both real people, but I gave them a very different fate.)

There's still a fair amount of editing and fine-tuning to go. The publishers are aiming for an early-to-mid-fall release date; the anthology will be available as an ebook and a print-on-demand paperback. I can't wait to see it and to read all the other stories!

Well, happy birthday to me, and I know a lady never reveals her age, but I am no lady: I've just become the answer to the Ultimate Question.


Observed it with my mom, on the Mile-High Swinging Bridge at Grandfather Mountain, near Blowing Rock, NC. We also went to the nature museum and saw the animal "habitats" (essentially, a zoo, but with local wildlife): three black bears (one actually cinnamon colored), a golden eagle, lots of deer, and a cougar*. Bonus animals not actually part of the exhibit, but hanging out there anyway, included a bevy of chipmunks and one hilarious raven who obviously found something fun to play in on one of the big rocks in the deer enclosure.




*no, it wasn't a mirror, smartass.

and ME. About two weeks after the moon landing and about a month before Woodstock.


And while I'm neither short nor hairy-footed, I'm doing it hobbit-style.

Post me a prompt and I'll write you a drabble. Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Good Omens, Daily Show, US Politics RPF, and I might take a stab at Pirates of the Caribbean, Discworld, or LOST if you hit my bunny spot. The ONLY, and I do mean ONLY, thing I won't do is anything really depressing, because this is a party.

No guarantees I will get to them today. In fact, I think it'd be fun to draw them out over the weekend...makes it all last longer.
