The Middle Distance

Those of you who've fandom-known me for a long time might know that mctabby was the one who badgered (and lioned and eagled and snaked) me to get an LJ in the first place, and that I've been an admirer of her Summary Executions for as long as she's been doing them, which is several years now.

So I was feeling a little MEAN GIRLZ this evening and went to see if Good Omens fandom could ever have such a wonderful thing.

wow, Saturday night is a graveyard on LJ.

I've had kind of a grueling week. Nothing terrible happened, just a lot of stress and work. The slow sandpaper grind, y'know.

But congratulations to Al Gore! Is there anyone else ever who has won an Oscar, an Emmy, a Nobel Peace Prize and a Presidential election?

And I got a fabulous surprise boost from quantum_witch: New Art! Detente, the Illustrated Version at switchythings. (Locked to members, so you know it's smut.)

I may go out later. I may go to bed early. It all depends on who's buyin', cause I sure can't.

Here's the deal. Take one of your posted fics and use Google's translator or Babelfish to translate it into the language of your choice and then back into English. Pick out the best line(s) of the new story and write a drabble. Post your drabble on your journal and tag five friends to do the same.

"It wasn't with Saladin that I learned," Aziraphale said. Really, Crowley's devotion to donkey football was rather embarrassing.

"Hmph," said Crowley. "Those Arabs liked their horses way too much if you ask me."

"NOT WITH HE WITH HE! IT OBTAINS YOUR MIND FROM THE GRONDAIA, YOU PERVERTITO OF PERDITIOUS!" The given ass of soccer behind.

"Grondaia?" asked Crowley, puzzled.

"Well, heads wound up in gutters all the time when I played the real game. Honestly, I was rather good," Aziraphale said defensively, thinking fondly of the particularly brutal form of Afghani polo that involved sheep corpses when times were lean, although human heads rolled a lot better.

Lessons learned from rock festivals? I don't care how hot it is, it's still physically impossible for me to stay grumpy while Sonic Youth is playing. Even if it's not one of their best nights.

Also: strapless bras are great in theory, but there must be some art to wearing them that I have never mastered, because I've never found one that doesn't migrate towards my waist, dragging my boobs down with it and making them look saggy when they aren't, and isn't that the very opposite of what a bra is supposed to do?

Appropos of nothing, from "Old Possum's Book of IMpractical Cats": I'm in love with these guys. Little cuddly kits are great but I want a Viking lynx!

...and I kinda feel it too, because that's how tired I am. I'm waayyy behind on the drabbling, but that's because of the last 48 hours, I've been at home and awake for about maybe 5 of them. Yes, my friends have been feasting and feting (and other f'things) me pretty splendidly, including an 8-hour marathon of a BBQ in a beautiful yard in Humboldt Park yesterday. I woke up at 2 PM today with a huge grin on my face, feeling loved.


And someone anonymously bought me two months of paid LJ time! *squee* Thank you thank you thank you!

There. That helps, to remind myself of what I've done that I'm proud of. They may be trifles, but they're my trifles and I love them.

Last night quantum_witch and I got to give something back to someone who's given us a lot. We posted an illustrated giftfic (belated birthday) for blueeyedtigress at switchythings, and it was big fun.

We revisited the world of our GO Elizabethan epic The Phoenix and the Turtle to bring her a version of the untold story of how Aziraphale's problematic mortal pal came by his shocking amount of knowledge. ("Madimi, that is entirely too much information!")
